Hingham Heritage Museums
Hingham Historical Society
The Hingham Historical Society was established in 1914 to collect, preserve, and promote Hingham’s historic heritage. The Society maintains three museums in historic downtown Hingham: New England’s newest house museum, the Benjamin Lincoln House, a National Historic Landmark and home of a Revolutionary War general and 11 generations of the Lincoln family, the 1686 Old Ordinary, an enchanting house museum and former tavern chronicling early life and history in colonial Hingham, and the Hingham Heritage Museum in the 1818 Old Derby Academy building, once home to the country’s oldest independent incorporated co-educational school. Renovated and reopened in 2017, the Hingham Heritage Museum houses the Society’s archives, the Gillis Reading Room, exhibit galleries and Visitors Center.
Our community programs include museum tours, cart tours, one of the nation’s oldest annual tour of historic homes, special exhibitions, lecture series, and other special events and programs.
Tours times and pricing vary. The Hingham Historical Society and Heritage Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., year round, or by special appointment. To book a tour or learn more please visit hinghamhistorical.org.
